Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only actor to be a symbol of Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. In the present, he's seen as the symbol of Colorado by people all over the world. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the opposite end of the planet, someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first thing you hear is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was the top solo success after performing in small folk groups. It was written by and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the song using Johnny Cash in mind but once Denver was introduced to an earlier version and listened to it, he was convinced that it was an instant hit. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward before performing the song to crowds that were enthralled in Washington D.C.
